ROCK 'N' ROLL

A few of my friends and I have grouped up and decided to start setting up photoshoots in our spare time. The idea of the shoots is to all get a chance to direct, style, photograph and be a make-up artist as well as have have some wonderful photographs to show for it. For this shoot we shot in early February, Amy took the role as creative director, Chhimmi was the MUA and hair stylist, Tom was the photographer, Heidi was our beautiful model and I was the stylist in terms of clothes, shoes and accessories. Amy wanted to create a "rock chick" look, and took TV star & musician Taylor Momsen as her inspiration. She's young, bold and experimental with her style and perfect for Amy's overall idea. We chose locations that would match up and represent the style we were portraying in the photos, we chose edgy, real and gritty spots in London with walls, stairs, concrete and fences that were broken, cracked and stained with graffiti. We wanted it to be on the streets and true to the style. We chose Heidi to model as she seemed perfect for this shoot, she can work various looks, very versatile, stunning and works well with the camera. For the styling I wanted to incorporate big/biker boots, lace/leather leggings, leather jacket, denim shorts/jeans/gilet, suspenders, leopard print, big & baggy vests with large arm holes, band t-shirts, chunky boots/heels, anything with studs and things that were ripped, torn or grazed was a bonus. I wanted to stay true to the style and play around with the styling to make it work as much as possible. Although we were very lucky it didn't rain on the day of the shoot, it was extremely cold but worked through it and ended up with some really nice photos. Overall it was a very successful day and I am really happy with the final images. The images I have carefully chosen to feature I have specifically picked out from the many photos taken during the photoshoot, and as you can see, I have featured a fair few number of them but it was so difficult to narrow the selection down I just thought "WHY NOT?" and posted up my favourites.

Over time I've been to some beautiful places, and I take my camera everywhere with me. I love looking back over photographs, and thought that I'd start adding these photos to my blog.

HIGHLIGHTS AND SHADOWS

During the lens based media week of my carousel from my Foundation Diploma last year, some of my friends and I had the chance to use the studios, lighting and cameras to have a play around and experiment with the equipment. I dug out the photos from my hard-drive and thought I'd post a couple of my favourites. Very simple but a lot of fun. MODELS= Leandro, Sam, Emily, Liv & Lindsey. Enjoy!

QUIFFS & LIPSTICK

I've always been really interested in the 1940s & 1950s and wanted to do a photoshoot inspired by these eras. The direction I took on the photoshoot was from a 1950s housewife's point of view, I wanted it to be very glamorous but rather domesticated and structured. I supplied the wardrobe and as usual created the make-up and hair. I wanted to stick with the traditional aesthetics with high waisted A-line skirts, fitted cardigans, button up shirts, elasticated waist belts, high heels, head scarves, bold colours and prints, flower hair clips, pill bow hats, beautiful hair and stunning make-up. I really enjoyed the photoshoot, plus my wonderful model Mae suited my ideas perfectly, her full lips and big eyes worked beautifully. I explored a few different hair ideas and the make-up consisted of flawless skin, big ruby lips, sleek eye-liner, beautiful lashes and golden eyelids. I really enjoyed styling for this shoot and getting the whole ensemble together. I really enjoyed the photoshoot, and Mae looked beautiful.

MAKE-UP COMPETITION

Recently, TV/radio star & fashionista Fearne Cotton held an online make-up/nail art competition, with entrants having the chance to win a collection of her new make-up line, which I must say is beautiful. Both the packaging and products are gorgeous, very feminine with a mix of floral and animal prints with the products produced in wonderful colours. My friend Chhimmi and I entered the competition, but unfortunately there were some complications with the amount of time it took for our final images to be uploaded into the entrant gallery which meant we were too late which was such a shame, luckily we enjoyed the process so it wasn't a total waste. Green seems to be one of the colours that dominates my eye-shadow collection so thought I would take advantage of that and use it as the main colour for my design. I used a collaboration of different green shades along with black, black liquid eye-line, black eye-liner, white high-lighter pencil, top and bottom false eye lashes, black mascara, silver gems and black gems. Due to the greens I came to the title 'Ivy', but as it was quite a severe eye design it reminded me of the idea and aesthetics of envy, so ended with 'Ivy/Envy' which coincidentally sounded quite perfect. Chhimmi wanted to create a sculptural and contemporary design using monochrome shades with a hint of colour which she managed to do so beautifully. Although we technically didn't enter the competition, it was nice to have a fun little experiment.    

' REAL LIFE '

A little while ago I did a photoshoot where my models were styled to suit the idea of subtle alternative fashion incorporating aspects of different styles including mainly hardcore, skate, and pin-up. I used a few different locations for my shoot, although no studio time as I wanted the shoot to be very real and raw. The locations included elements that were broken, cracked, scuffed, separated and boarded up. I wanted the backgrounds of the photos to represent the edgy reality of alternative fashion. Olivia's make-up consisted of dark eyes and defined eyebrows for an edgier look and Chris' beard added to the rugged aesthetic. Although it was a very simple photo shoot, I really liked the outcome.

PARCHA EXHIBITION

In December 2011 I had the chance to go to the Parcha Exhibition at The Art Pavillion in Mile End, London. I found out about it through one of my closest friends/flat-mates as she was designing a small collection for it. The main focuses of the exhibition were young Nepalese designers, artists and performing artists. The designer's collections were absolutely fabulous, from both the female and male designers. Not only was there a design section but part of the show was dedicated to clothes that had been commissioned by brands such as Max C London, they were put together and styled by the lovely boys and girls that were backstage and designing for the show. Not only were the clothes fantastic, the art that was being exhibited and sold at the venue was amazing! There were also dancers and musicians at the event which was a really nice way of breaking up the shows into sections, all of which were very talented.
